GST Compliance Rules
The Goods and Services Tax (GST) is an indirect, multi-stage tax levied on the supply of goods and services in India, replacing multiple historical levies like excise duty, VAT, and service tax. Under the current regime, items are categorized into five primary tariff brackets, ranging from tax-free essentials to luxury products.
When issuing tax invoices, it is critical to supply HSN (Harmonized System of Nomenclature) or SAC (Services Accounting Code) codes alongside the transaction items to ensure tax filing validity. For inter-state supplies, bill Integrated GST (IGST); for intra-state sales, divide the rate equally into CGST and SGST.
